Anatomy of Fashion
Project Description
Art and medical students at Michigan State University collaborated to produce the “Anatomy of Fashion” runway show. Medical students walked the runway in fashion designed entirely from scrubs. This event was covered by news channels and gained mass support from the extended MSU community. VIM Film was presented with an opportunity to create a promotional video that would be featured pre-model walk, I was responsible for creating the shot-list, DP, and camera crew.
Post-production, I was invited to be a makeup artist on show day, where I completed 9 full-face makeup looks. I was given a vision from the designers on site, then replicated the desired looks under a time constraint. All money raised from the fashion show went towards benefiting the care-free medical clinic which provides medical, dental, optometry, and behavioral healthcare services to Lansing area residents.
In order to raise funds, there were multiple raffles for the audience to engage in. The winners of the raffle went home with a set of high quality scrubs, my sister being one of them!
My Role
Curating shot-list, DP, and camera crew.
Lessons Learned
Showing up with the right attitude while doing good work will lead to new, and promising opportunities.
Opportunities Presented
Working on set as a makeup artist for the “Anatomy of Fashion” Runway show was my first time working directly with designers. I thought to myself “how neat it is to create something that makes others feel beautiful, proud, and accomplished, too.” Flash forward, about a month later, I took it upon myself to design for the Spring Fashion Show titled “From Dawn Till Dusk.”
My experience with VIM extended from film team member, to makeup artist, then later fashion designer. Working as a makeup artist for “Anatomy of Fashion” also presented an opportunity to work as a makeup artist on set for a short film titled “Hush.” It’s not always about what you know, but who you know!
