VIM Magazine cover reveal was hosted by the trending shop, “More Than Vintage” (MTV) in East Lansing.. Members of every VIM team gathered for this event, it was packed with anticipation and creativity, I was in my element. However, being the only film team member able to attend, it was on me to get footage, edit, and promote for years to come.

Lessons Learned

The best footage comes from candid moments, for example, girls gathering to take a photo, mid conversation, or someone simply being in the moment. Although it is natural to film what catches your eye, the manner of how a videographer approaches these situations is essential. Reasonably, people may be uncomfortable on film, especially if they don’t know who is filming or the intentions. Discomfort will show in the final product, instead of conveying a fun, uplifting environment. I found that a quick introduction, followed by a compliment, then asking permission to film from that point forward is key to getting good footage.
